Introduction
It was 39 degrees when I arrived at the AO, light breeze and you could start to see the sun was getting ready to rise as the sky was lightening in the east. Got out of truck and began setting up the field for a 4 corner battle that would leave every man in attendance better than when they arrived. Slinky pulled up to ask if I needed help before taking off to start the coffee brewing.

Circle of Trust
I don’t believe in coincidences or luck, IMO things happen at a specific time for a reason and this last week proved it to me once again. Earlier this week Bedpan shared the F3 Nations quarterly SLT meeting, in it the leaders were reviewing the Grow Ruck numbers and the last two for this year only had 4 registrants. Slaughter piped up and basically said he believes the low numbers are due to fear. Men being afraid of Grow Ruck because it’s hard. Which he is right, it is hard but he goes on to say he thinks men are getting prepared for “hard’ because workouts are getting soft. He says that over the past several months he has been to several workouts around the nation, and in many he sees many men cutting reps, not doing the complete exercise, basically selling themselves short, quitting because they are out of breath not willing or able to push past their mind telling them to stop.
Fast forward to Tuesday night, the M and I go to a worship concert at the Now Arena, Elevation Worship and their pastor Steve Furtick are there. In his message he talks about his daughter, she’s 11 and his two sons 13/14. His daughter wanted to swim from one end of a pool to the other underwater, and in doing so would beat her older brothers by doing it earlier than they had. Her Dad tells her, look this is going to be hard and your mind is going to tell to stop because you need to breath or it’s too dangerous, you might get hurt… and then he says, you just need to not listen to the lizard part of your brain. The amygdala is the part of the brain that remembers pain, and recalls that feeling it when we do or attempt something that is hard and painful and tried to stop us from doing. It’s a protective part but also one that can hinder us from accelerating. Well she swam the length of the pool underwater and beat her older brothers. When she came up , she took a big breath and then said, “dad, that lizard was really loud in my head”, dad says, “well what did you do so you could make it all the way”, “I told the lizard to shut up”!!!
Men, we need to learn to tell our lizard brain to shut up, and push ourselves past the uncomfortable, past the feeling that you can’t catch your breath, can’t lift that coupon one more time.. we need to push through and accelerate our fitness because this is the cornerstone of F3. We have to get right, 1st F, to lead right in order to leave right! If we can get past the uncomfortable in the 1st F we can get through the uncomfortable in anything else. Aye!!!
