Introduction
Arrived at the AO fairly to reacquaint myself with Da Grizz. It should be noted that I didn’t get lost getting there. I did learn later that one PAX (who will remain nameless) thought he bridge was out and took the loooooooong way to get to the AO. Hey, at least he made it! Finished up my EC and started seeing PAX arrive and then I saw more and more cars and realized there were a bunch of PAX showing up that I was unaware were coming. It became apparent that our Southsid3 brothers decided to show up and brought out a few FNGs as well. Not to fret as this beatdown would accommodate any number of PAX. As normal protocol, we acknowledged we had a few FNGs, we went over the fact that I’m not a professional, not aware of any injuries, PAX should modify accordingly, and that each PAX is responsible for themselves. Without question, I covered the 5 Principles of F3, the F3 Mission, and the F3 Credo. We then proceeded to the Warm-Up
Warm-O-Rama
Demonstrated each warm up movement as we had some FNGs. The Warm Up consisted of:
SSH x 20
Tappy Taps x 12
Good Mornings x 10
Arm Circles (front and back) x 10
Mosey to the halfway point (.13 miles) on the run that the PAX would do during the beatdown and then returned to the parking lot.
The Thang
Explained the workout as well as demonstrated the various movements. The beatdown was an AMRAP (as many rounds as possible) of
2 Burpees
5 Upright Rows (Coupon or Sandbag)
10 Merkins
15 Squats
After completing 5 rounds, the PAX would run 400m and then Rinse and Repeat. Each completed 5 rounds the PAX run.
We completed this until Mary at 0555
Mary consisted of JLOs, Flutter kicks, and Leg Raises
Circle of Trust
Ozark gave a cliff notes version of the announcements and then prior to the COT, we had to welcome two FNGs.
The first FNG, Arven a carpenter by trade. Arven didn’t give the PAX a whole lot of meat until he mentioned he once jumped out of a window at a girlfriends house. From that moment on he will forever be known as “Juliet”.
The second FNG, Chris works in real estate apparently has been working out since he was like 5 or something from yoga to CrossFit. 🙂 Chris enjoys outdoor activities like fishing and hunting. Someone (Choco Taco?) through out the name “Bambi” and a few other PAX agreed. As QIC, I decided to give Chris an opportunity to give us a little more meat, Chris had nothing more to give so he will forever be known in F3 as “Bambi” .
More info will be available on these two FNGs in slack once they get squared away there.
Prior to getting into my thoughts for the day, we had the distinct pleasure of getting to better know the 6th Man (the person who is number 6 in the Count-A-Rama). Today, the 6th Man was non other than 56 1/2 year old, Mike Blake aka “Package Handler”. Mike was EH’d by Houdini and both of these brothers are part of a fairly new region, The Southsid3, that without question is on fire! Mike has worked for numerous years in real estate as well as the transportation/e-commerce/services sector. Mike has been with F3 Southsid3 for a few months now and this dude is to put it mildly, AMPED up to be here. Its evident he’s full of passion and vigor and has a great sense of humor (wears a Iowa Hawkeye hat to jab at his son that attends Iowa State) this stuffed pizza loving HIM is certainly accelerating and drinking the kool-aid! Love ya brother! Keep accelerating!
As I moved into my thoughts for the PAX, I first wanted to compliment the men on a job well done! Way to push yourselves! As I mentioned in my COT yesterday, I reiterated that we only have one life and we can either get busy living or get busy dying. I also reminded these Men to continue to always push to the front. Even if you’re the last PAX in a beatdown, get to the front. A reminder that this is mental awareness month. Some people are just trying to survive (Survivors) while others appear to be happy on the outside, but on the inside they’re dealing with a bunch of stuff (non-F3, these Men could be considered Sad Clowns). In either case, they each need something. Each of us may be the link to helping them get to where they need to be, but we have to be close enough (Proximity) to help out and make a difference, move them to change… IMPACT!
Lastly, you never know what someone is going through so reach out and say hello, how’s it going, check in with someone you haven’t checked in with lately. These little things matter more than we realize especially for Men dealing with mental struggles. We are all dealing with stuff, some more than others, but the truth of the matter is you never know what someone is going through unless they tell you or you ask. Someone has to make the first move. I certainly know I need to do a better job in this area. Aye!
We ended with spoken and unspoken Thoughts And Prayers (TAPs)
Naked Man Moleskin
It was certainly hot and humid in the gloom and the Men that showed up put in the work! I got the sense that the PAX enjoyed (it wasn’t easy) the workout and for that I’m content. At one point, I apparently skipped a round (did 4 rounds versus 5 rounds) before a 400m run and a few PAX (Overdraft and Pi 3.14) were quick to point that out. I guess they were trying to keep pace with ‘Ole Blue Gill 🙂 I still contend that’s not true per my tick marks I made with a rock on the cement. 🙂 Of course this poke was all in good fun (maybe 🙂 ), but it did remind me about some virtues us men subscribe to such as Courage, Candor, Accountability (Individually and Team). I appreciated the courage/candor to call me out regardless of the intentionality behind it and to hold me accountable. We should be doing that to each other all the time whether it be with standards of movement, goals, commitments, or how many sets/or reps are required. Finally, its also an important reminder that we do not show up for ourselves, but rather for the men around us. Have a blessed day!. Love you guys!
Outstanding Q….I woke up not wanting to workout, just tired. Accountability brought me to the gloom. The beat down set me up for a great Friday! Thanks BlueGill for leading! Always a pleasure!
