The Thang

Thang 1 – DORA on the hill

  • PAX partnered up. While one partner was working through 10 burpees, 50 OHP, 50 Merkins (on coupon), 75 Squats, 75 Curls, 100 LBCs, the other ran up & over the hill to the other side and back
  • PAX progressed through the PT individually on their own count (PAX did not combine reps to the totals above).

Thang 2 – Suicides on the basketball court

  • Started on the baseline.  Ran to half court, 3 burpees, back to the baseline. Same thing to the far free throw line and the far baseline.
  • We did similar but not exactly the same exact thing with big boys, Bobby Hurleys, and merkins.

Circle of Trust

The struggle for many men between work and family priorities is real.  There are often times when your family and your work stakeholders both have needs that they feel should be your top priority, and these needs must be balanced.  I experienced this last week, while on Spring Break – I unexpectedly had to leave my family on vacation and come home for 24 hours to attend to an urgent work matter.

This struggle, and the conflicts that can arise from it, is common when we have so many people counting on us.  But as HIM, we must rise to this challenge the best we can.  One way to help ensure we strike this balance correctly is to constantly communicate with our family members and our stakeholders at work.  Only then will we understand when the stakes are high and the needs are urgent, and when one side of the work/life balance can give a little.

There is no formula for this and the answer is not 50/50.  Also remember that most of us work for the benefits of our families. So, attending to work matters is a form of supporting your family too (within reason of course).

Talk to those around you, be honest, be vulnerable and you’ll find that those that truly love you will support you as you navigate the struggles of balancing work and family.
