Introduction
It’s my 2.0’s (Medusa) last day of her freshman year at PNHS. That got me a little nostalgic about the year-end Field Day that I used to volunteer for when she was in elementary school at Lincoln. So, she helped me come up with some fun Track & Field events we can try at run club.
Warm-O-Rama
Jog in place while I went over the introduction and disclaimer.
SSH OYO while I went over the F3 mission, core principles, and credo.
Warm-up stretches: Good mornings, Abe Vigodas, Willy Mays Hayes, knee pulls, quad stretch, TIE fighters, leg swings, 90-90, side laying back twist.
The Thang
Thang 1: 1/2-mile warm-up run together through the neighborhood.
Thang 2: Stop at the cage next to the track and each take turns doing a shot put (with bocce balls) and then side shuffle out to retrieve them.
Thang 3: Run over to the hills and bleachers next to the track and do follow the leader up and down hills. At the bleachers, hop up stairs, lunge walk across top, and squat steps going down.
Thang 4: 2000-m steeplechase (modified) on the track. 4 hurdles set-up around the track, and the 5th hurdle in front of sand pit. For safety, we did not jump over hurdles, just step-overs.
Thang 5: Shuttle run in parking lot (first light pole and back, second light pole and back, third light pole and back, and fourth light pole and back).
Mary: Laying on back with shoulders off ground and abs engaged, perform hamstring stretch, knee pulls, pigeon stretch, and rope pulls IC with recovery in-between each one. Finished with 30-second plank hold.
Circle of Trust
I mentioned I sometimes look into the past too much and don’t appreciate the present. My daughter keeps getting older and I often reminisce about when she was younger (field day for instance), and I forget to appreciate the now. Another thing I’m working on.
Naked Man Moleskin
I’ve heard some chatter about PAX not showing up for run clubs when they are just “out and back”…so I decided to try to mix this one up a bit and try some new things. The important thing is just to keep moving the whole time, and we definitely got some miles in. Thanks Bobby V for having our six today!
