Introduction

The workout was built around the COT – what does it mean to accelerate as you approach the second curve in your life and career?

Warm-O-Rama

Motivators – from 6

Abe Vigodas, Tappy Taps, Good Mornings, Arm Circles.

A quick mosey for fun…

The Thang

This was a EMOM workout – except for the fact that the time duration was actually 90 seconds.  We did 90 seconds of activity, then ran a lap in the parking lot.  If the PAX pushed, the 90 second window allowed for about 10-15 seconds of rest before the next exercise set.  A shorter route was also identified for those that wanted to modify the exercise, not the effort!

Exercise sets included:  Push Press, Squats, Decline Merkins, Walk Over Merkins, Thrusters, Curls, Chest Press, Dips, Rows, Lunges,  and Shoulder Taps.  In total we did 11 laps of the parking lot in between.

The final lap got us back to Mary with about 4 minutes left.

Mary included LBCs and Captain Thors (I hate these, but we worked up to 6)

Circle of Trust

The COT focused on the book “From Strength to Strength” by Arthur Brooks.  There were two themes in particular that were highlighted in the message.

  1. We all experience (or should experience) two curves.  Often we enter the second curve as we hit that third quadrant in life (in F3 I equate that to the respect club).  The first curve in our career/life is driven by our natural talent or intellect.  Naturally there is a point where that curve hits the peak.  It is critical to recognize that and know when it is time to focus on the second curve.  The second curve is focused more on our experience in life.  In the second curve, we use the wisdom and life experience that has been developed to focus less on our own contribution, and more on the contributions of others.  We learn to better develop the talents of the people around us and serve more as a coach.  Leaning into the second curve helps you avoid burnout, and also lead into some of the opportunities that will probably bring you joy as you look at other aspects of your life.
  2. The book also offered us a simple statement that helps to remind us of the focus as we lean into the second curve.  The seven words you have to remember are “Use things, love people, and worship the devine”.  Sometimes our careers (and perhaps home life) is built on accumulating things.  When that is the case, you will never truly be happy as there is always the next thing.  Rather, use the things that you need to accumulate in life to be comfortable, but focus on loving the people around you as that is what will bring true joy in the third quadrant (or your journey on the second curve).

Prayers were offered for several of the Pax, followed by the regions finest coffee!

Naked Man Moleskin

Great to see 31 men out this morning in the gloom.
