Circle of Trust

Shared the personal story of my friendship and service with our Hero WoD honoree, MSG (Retired) Michael S. Waddell.

Mike and I served in the Infantry together. We were Specialists (SPC/E-4) and Sergeant’s (SGT) while at Ft. Sill, OK between 1992-1994. Our paths diverged for several years as Mike continued to serve and I left the Army to finish college on an ROTC scholarship. In 2002 we had the rare opportunity to spend time with each other’s families while I was attending the Captain’s Career Course at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO and Mike was an instructor at the NCO Academy. I never saw Mike again after that. We stayed in touch as much as most folks do through Facebook, but nothing deep. On May 8, 2023, Mike lost his battle with PTSD.

RIP brother.

Obituary information for Michael S. Waddell

Naked Man Moleskin

These numbers hold great significance to his life and service:

22 was the number of years of his service
5/8/23 was the date of his death
5 was the number of his deployments including 2 for Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF)

I saw this workout online back at the beginning of the month. Wendy, Mike’s widow, posted it noting that their son, Madison, created it to honor his father. At that moment, I knew this was the Hero WoD I wanted to share with the men of F3 Plainfield.
