Introduction
There was a scheduled outdoor MEETING at The Ridge today. The wind was blowing hard, but at least the rain held off! Not sure if it was better to be on top of the mountain or in the valley, but we found out we are stronger together!
Warm-O-Rama
- Start PAX with a warmup exercise (motivators from 5), then recover and jogged in place while YHC read below:
Faith – Is Man’s right relationship with his creator. The belief in something greater than yourself. Some may refer to this as God, Sky Q, Nature, etc., but it’s some force or power outside of oneself that provides an orderly explanation of our existence and delivers consequences for the violation of that order. Lots of words, but the idea is that you believe in something greater than yourself.
A HIM is always accelerating through the G3L (Get Right, Live Right, Lead Right, and Leave Right) and Faith is part of that Get Right (Fitness, Fellowship, and Faith). Acceleration in Faith can be accomplished through Prayer (the daily discipline to talk with your creator), Study (daily exploration of the foundations of faith) and today’s Q Source WOW theme and topic – Meeting (the public manifestation of faith).
- Recover, Perform another warmup exercise (Abe Vigodas), Recover, then jog in place and YHC read
Meeting – the public manifestation of faith, may mean going to a church, or going to a synagogue, or meeting up at some other place like a McDonalds and getting together with a bunch of other people in their Faith journey.
Here’s 3 takeaways about Meeting and how it can help accelerate Faith of which YHC elaborated on more later
Takeaways
Faith is best accelerated in the company of others
To leave a legacy a man must be competent in the practice of his belief system
Meeting holds the shepherd accountable to the truth
- Perform one or more warm up exercises (Tappy Taps). Recover, then have PAX stretch OYO while YHC explained the workout.
The Thang
The Thang
Have all PAX partner up. Explain that partners will be split up and be at opposite ends for a portion of the workout. Explained the workout below to the PAX
Thang 1 – (10 mins)
OYO – Perform the listed movements, reps and rounds.
Perform 1 Round of
5 – Hand Release Merkins
10 – Mountain Climbers (Hardway – 4 Count)
15 – Air Squats
After completing the # of rounds, run to the top of the hill and perform 5 burpees and then return to the start location. Rinse and Repeat until time
After 10 minutes is up had PAX Meet in the middle, Rest (1.5 minutes). While YHC read: Thang 1 – This was to simulate a Man doing things on his own. On your Fitness journey by yourself. On your Faith journey by yourself. You’re on the mountain top alone or you’re in the valley alone licking your own wounds. You can only do so much by yourself.
Proceed to Thang 2 (Explain again, if needed)
Thang 2 – (10 mins)
Dora (partners should still be at opposite ends) – Perform the listed movements, reps and rounds.
Perform 2 Rounds of
5 – Hand Release Merkins
10 – Grady Corns
15 – Bonnie Blairs (Easy Way – 1 is 1)
After completing the # of rounds, run to the midpoint and perform SSH until the partner arrives. Once the partner arrives, complete 5 burpees together and then return to their individual start location. Rinse/Repeat until time
After 10 minutes is up. PAX met in the middle, Rest (1.5 minutes).
While YHC read Thang 2 – Dora – This was to simulate a HIM Meeting another HIM. Just like in our Fitness, we pick up the 6, we pick up each other. We Leave No Man Behind but Leave No Man Where We Find Him. We cannot do life alone, Stronger Together!! While each Man may be on their individual faith journey and each man at times will be on their respective mountaintops and in their respective valleys, we can overcome obstacles together! Help a brother down in his own valley, while the HIM is on his mountain top, pull that brother up from the valley and minister him for a moment.
Proceed to Thang 3 (Explain again, if needed)
Thang 3 – (10 mins)
Help a Brother Out – Perform the listed movements, reps and rounds. Rinse and repeat until time.
Perform 2 Rounds of
5 – Hand Release Merkins
10 – Big Boy Situps
15 – Bobby Hurleys (Easy way – 1 is 1)
After completing the # of rounds, each individual must pick up (help finish reps) for other men where they are (same start location) before all proceed to meet in the middle. At the middle, PAX will perform SSH’s until all the PAX (both sides) join the group. Once all PAX have arrived, as a group complete 5 burpees together and then return to individual start location.
We worked right through Mary and completed right at 0600 on top of the hill.
YHC read: Thang 3 – Help a Brother Out and Candor – This was to simulate more HIM Meeting other HIM in their faith journeys, in their valleys and on their mountain tops. Helping each other out (from mountain tops/in the valleys) but also graciously providing Candor when we see MEN not doing what they should be doing (standards (fitness), belief system (faith)) and also demanding to hear it from others about ourselves.
Circle of Trust
Scat told all the PAX of all the great things going on in the region! Spectacular job!
Q1.12 – Meeting – Takeaways (Deeper Dive)
- Faith is best accelerated in the company of others
However he seeks answers to the WHAT-WHAT (What will happen when I die? and What does that mean about the way I should live now?), the HIM does not go about it alone. Because of the Flux, all men have their ups and downs. We spend some of our time on the mountaintop of our Faith-life, when we want to share our Joy with every stranger we meet. But we also have to slog through valleys of spiritual dryness, when all we really want is to be left alone to lick our wounds.
The odd thing that a HIM discovers when he summons the discipline to Meet despite being in a valley is that there will inevitably be a man there for whom the valley is an even darker and deeper place. Confronted by that Brother more direly in need than himself the HIM will forget his own woe just long enough to minister to him–and in the momentary forgetting of himself, POOF, find that he has returned to his own mountaintop. Ironically, it’s those latter times (when Meeting is the last thing we want to do) that are the instances in which we most need to be there, so that we can share the strength of our Brothers who might just be on their own mountaintop. How much easier it is to reach up from the pit when a Brother is reaching down to meet us.
- To leave a legacy a man must be competent in the practice of his belief system
To be competent in one’s Faith requires Skill, which results from Practice. Meeting (like Prayer and Study) is a Brick in the Practice of Faith. It is a positive Habit that increases a HIM’s Skill. Because a Virtuous Leader lives according to a particular Belief System, he regards the Acceleration of his Faith as a Mission-essential Task, something that must be done Competently. As a leader, what you say and what you do need to be in alignment. A leader (Q) cannot for example show up to a workout and be out of shape. You should be leading or near the front. Same holds true with Concentrica (Fellowship)..Are you taking care of your M? You say you are but are you Accelerating in Faith is no different…Prayer, Study, and Putting your Faith into Practice increases your skill and leads to competence.
- Meeting holds the shepherd accountable to the truth
Candor is graciously telling the hard Truth and demanding to hear it from others. Whether that be with our Fitness (guys not pushing harder than they can, not upholding standards, accountability), the same holds true with Faith. It is a rare quality, because people are hard-wired to avoid the adverse consequences that often arise from knowledge of the Truth, whether it is their own knowledge or the knowledge of those around them. Leaders will hide the Truth from their followers to avoid Accountability for their own failures, but also for a less selfish reason: to avoid bringing them pain.
This is especially true with Shepherds, those who are the spiritual Leaders of a Faith Group. Shepherds are charged with the duty to disclose the Truth of the Group’s Belief System to its Members. If the Belief System is one that requires subordination of one’s will to a higher power, then the Truth will be confrontational to those Members who find that undesirable.
If you believe in it, if it works, you believe it’s the truth, and you’ve put it to the test, why wouldn’t you tell another man? Why would you let him waddle in a lie? That’s a weird kind of love to leave a brother in a lie.
Naked Man Moleskin
I think this statement is worth repeating….If you believe in it, if it works, you believe it’s the truth, and you’ve put it to the test, why wouldn’t you tell another man? Why would you let him waddle in a lie? That’s a weird kind of love to leave a brother in a lie.
