Introduction

This morning was a perfect morning to run The Gauntlet.  The weather was spot on, it was second to last week of Reindeer Games, and everyone’s competitive spirits were still in full effect.  I arrived around 3:50am to begin setup.  The HC’s were coming in strong, and I knew we would likely have more PAX joining in then what a single Gauntlet could handle. After getting cones and the equipment I had placed, I joined the 0415 crew on a 3 mile EC Ruck.

Having over 30 HC’s we broke into 6 teams and ran (2) Gauntlets.  Captains were appointed based on previous participation with The Gauntlet.  This helped YHC keep the men moving without too much explaining.

The Thang

Break into 3 Groups
Group 1 – Does 1-Lap
Group 2 – Does 2-Laps
Group 3 – Starts in The GauntletGroup in the Gauntlet has to finish all of their reps before the group behind them catches them.  Getting caught in The Gauntlet may have consequences during Mary. Groups MUST stick together on ruck, but can push the pace as they see fit.
The Gauntlet is a 5-Station Beatdown Consisting of:
Station 1:
2-Coupon Farmers Carry – 25 Yards out and back
Station 2:
40lbs Sandbag Throw – 25 Yards out and back
Station 3:
(10 reps) 60lbs Sandbag Clean / Press and flip overhead
Station 4:
80lbs Sandbag Carry – 25 Yards
Station 5:
(10 Reps) 120lbs Sandbag Deadlift
  • All reps are owed by team. Teams can split and share reps as needed to pick up their own SIX.
  • Teams do NOT need to do stations in order.
  • The Gauntlet will be setup on south end of lot
  • The Ruck will be full ¼ mile loop around the lot
Keep count as to how many times you catch a team in The Gauntlet. I may decide to hand out punishment burpees during Mary
(Due to number of PAX participating, we ran two Gauntlets and broke into 6 teams.  Gauntlets were setup at north and south ends of the lot.  Six team Gauntlet is essentially running two three team Gauntlets consecutively.)
Mary:
We circled up with a few minutes to spare.  YHC asked PAX If any group was caught in The Gauntlet 3 times…  No response.  YHC asked PAX if any group got caught in The Gauntlet 2 times…. Limited response.  It seemed that PAX were not honest with their response, so I asked all PAX to complete 15 Burpees OYO.  Most were able to complete before 6AM.

Circle of Trust

YHC came across the following quote prior to the beatdown, and reflected on its meaning.

“If you are willing to only do what is EASY, then your life will be HARD, but if you do what is HARD, your life will be EASY.”  – T. Harv Eker

This can mean many things to different people.  To name a few:

Be disciplined and keep to a budget, so you dont have to live check to check

Exercise so you dont grow so weak you cannot care for yourself

Be mindful of your diet so you dont become overweigh and unhealthy

Learn a skill, trade, or diploma, so you can make a living and care for you family

Ended in prayer

Reindeer Games finds a way to bring out the competition in us all and The Gauntlet is the perfect beatdown to help PAX tap into this.  Teams were encouraged to push the pace, stick together, and try to “catch” other teams in the Gauntlet.  YHC saw many teams jogging instead of walking, sharing reps, and working together to push each other to move faster.  Way to embrace the competition fellas!!!
