Circle of Trust
I spoke about a book I recently read – Outlive by Dr. Peter Attia. It is a book on longevity, and Attia discusses not all not how to and the importance extending not only the length of our lives, but also the quality of the life we live. He lays out his “4 Horsemen” – the 4 things that are most likely to kill is: Cardiovascular disease, Diabetes, Cancer, and Neurodegenerative diseases. Attia lays out what causes each of these and then provides insights to how to stave them off. Modern medicine typically waits for symptoms of these issues to manifest themselves, then begins treatment. Attia argues we should be focused on how to live lifestyles that prevent them (or delay them as long as possible). This is achieved through exercise, diet, exogenous molecules (supplements such as vitamins), and paying attention to mental health.
Mental health is so important. Attia referenced a quote from Paolo Coelho, the author of The Alchemist (another great book to check out btw), on this front.
“Maybe the journey isn’t so much about becoming anything. Maybe it’s unbecoming everything that isn’t you so you can be who you were meant to be in the first place.”
I love this quote and it resonates with me and our society today. Too many people are worried about what other people think about them and make life choices based on that. Just open up social media for proof of that. Let’s stop doing that and focus on who we really are at our cores!
I highly recommend you check out the book. If you do, let me know and let’s discuss it.
Naked Man Moleskin
This was my AOVQ at the Silo. I think the design worked well for the variety of fitness levels of the PAX that attended. I’m looking forward to my next Q at this great AO.
