Introduction
I spent some time carefully planning our route for this run club but I made a critical error. I assumed the path through Mather Woods was paved all the way – it was not.
Warm-O-Rama
- Jog in place
- Good Mornings
- Various Stretches
- Mini Air Squats
The Thang
We ran about 4 miles. Started out heading south from the AO along the Ft Beggs bike path. Then:
- West on Fraser
- North on River
- West on Renwick to Mather Woods
Here’s where my route broke down. There’s a mapped loop in Mather Woods that was the perfect distance to run, then head back to the AO for a nice 4 mile total. However, the loop turned out to be a dirt trail. So we headed north from Mather Woods toward Settler’s Park, knowing that we couldn’t make it all the way to Lockport St and back to the AO by 6:00. So we cut through a small patch of woods and tall grass and got absolutely covered with burrs from the plants. These things are impossible to get off and there were a lot of them. This is on me, since the route I designed was untested and included a bad assumption.
Circle of Trust
I shared that I’m traveling to Texas this week for work for an unexpected meeting. As a result, I’ll miss the championship cross country meet for my twin daughters. When I found out about this trip last week, and that it would mean I couldn’t support my girls at their meet, I was angry and let it ruin my day. I was not the best version of myself that day.
Thinking about all I have to be grateful for is what snapped me out of it. At least I have a job that allows me to provide for my family. God has blessed our family with good health, and seems to have blessed my daughters with fast legs. I have a lot more to be grateful for than I have to be angry about.
Naked Man Moleskin
I really hope the PAX can get the burrs off their clothes. These things are crazy! My bad!
