Introduction
I’ve learned a lot about leadership principles through QSource, and I’m excited to lead my first QSource Workout of the Week (WoW). The temperature was right around 0-degrees, but Dilly Dilly’s Preparedness themed beatdown will bring the fire.
Foundation 5 – Preparedness: Getting Ready for the Expected While Being Ready for the Unexpected.
F3 is an organization of leaders rather than an organization with leaders. As such, every member of F3 is asked and expected to be a leader. This ethic arises from our mission statement, which is to plant, serve and grow men’s small workout groups in order to invigorate male community leadership. Today’s beatdown is themed to demonstrate the process through which that is achieved by the concept of preparedness. To be an effective leader, you must consistently accelerate your preparedness so you can be ready for unexpected circumstances. You do this through the process of becoming more right through the G3L: Get Right, Leave Right, Lead Right, and Leave Right. Today’s beatdown will guide us through those four quadrants.
Warm-O-Rama
Jog in place while Q goes over the introduction, disclaimer, core principles, mission, and credo. The purpose of the mission is “to invigorate male community leadership”, and today’s beatdown is themed to demonstrate the process through which that is achieved by the concept of preparedness.
Perform 4 warm-up exercises with increasing levels of intensity to represent the 4 quadrants of the G3L: Good Mornings, TIE fighters, Tempo merkins, and Motivators.
Split the group into 2 smaller groups of 4 PAX (Q goes back and forth between the groups) and send each group to one of the quadrant stations.
The Thang
PAX will complete exercises at each station and then rotate clockwise to the next station (Get Right to Live Right to Lead Right to Leave Right). Q creates disruption during the workout to represent the fact that the G3L is not a check the box routine as throughout life you will fall in and out of certain quadrants based on what is happening in your life, representing the concept of Preparedness. Q presents a series of life events to present to the groups, which will either send them back to a previous quadrant or have them accelerate forward to another quadrant (the cadence of this is every 5 minutes or so). Groups can repeat quadrants, which is fine.
Q1 – Get Right: A man must properly align himself by committing to accelerate his fitness by taking the daily red pill (DRP). At this station the exercises are focused on individualized work and getting yourself better not worrying about others. Perform the following exercises OYO:
- 25 merkins
- 50 LBCs
- 75 air squats
- 100 SSH (single count)
Q2 – Live Right: To be purposeful and have a strong effect on other members of the group. At this station the exercises are focused on partner activity. Complete the following exercises in DORA format (traveling partner does bear crawl out and back 25 yards).
- 50 merkins
- 50 LBCs
- 50 squats
- 100 SSH (single count)
Q3 – Lead Right: Continuous sharpening of virtuous leadership skills to help organizations be effective and directly making TEAMS more dynamic. At this station the exercises are led by one of the PAX in the group steeping up to lead the rest of the group in the exercises listed:
- 10 slow count merkins
- 20 LBCs in cadence
- 10 slow count squats
- 20 SSH in cadence
Q4 – Leave Right: To build a legacy through disruptive leadership over time leads to impact throughout his lifetime and others beyond. At this station, the exercises are focused on whatever the group chooses they want to do to leave their legacy.
- PAX take turns calling out exercises and leading the group.
For Mary, we built off the Leave Right section and each took turns leading an exercise until 6am.
Disruptive Life Events (group at that station you disrupt all moves together)
- Work requirements have caused you to travel a lot throwing your Queen out of whack with a lot of alcohol consumption and poor diet choices. Time to tame the Jester, fall back to GET RIGHT.
- Your wife mentions that she feels like your life is revolving around F3 but she doesn’t feel like she and your kids are fitting into that acceleration in your life. Time to refocus priorities, fall back to LIVE RIGHT.
- You have been contributing to F3 for a year and the current SLT asks you to step into a site Q role. Take the challenge and move forward to LEAD RIGHT.
- Your kids have grown up and your daughter is leading an at risk youth group and your son is running a non-profit organization. You have left your mark, move to LEAVE RIGHT.
- You have reach VP role status in your company after years of hard work and you are dictating orders to your team to be successful at all costs. Time to look at your leadership style, fall back to LEAD RIGHT.
- You have a strong need to build deep relationships with the men around you but are unwilling to commit and prioritize being vulnerable by joining a Shield Lock relationship. Time to commit, fall back to GET RIGHT.
- You have recently uncovered your passion/purpose or D2X and have written a mission statement for yourself. Time to put that purpose to action, move forward to LIVE RIGHT.
Circle of Trust
We must always remember that life is not a series of tasks that you check the box and move on like a daily chore list. Life will fluctuate up and down depending on your circumstances. The key to success is continuing to build bricks that form guardrails finding ways to stay on the path of acceleration and not allowing things like your Jester or fears to hold you back. Today was a small representation of the importance of always being PREPARED in your life by getting ready for the expected while being ready for the unexpected. We do the hard things we do every morning and every CSAUP because they most likely will be the hardest things we do during that day or in our life. In the words of David Goggins, we are callusing our minds and bodies so that when those unexpected things happen, we can deal with them without throwing our life and the lives of others around us into a flux.
Naked Man Moleskin
Thanks Dilly Dilly for developing an awesome beatdown.
Thanks at Foreclosure for having my 6.
Thanks Crabgrass for being patient with me while I butchered the 3 Rivers rally cry at the end of the workout.
Shout out to Finch, in only his second workout, was able to lead the group through some exercises.
