Introduction

This was the first battle in the King of the Q and boy did it live up to expectations!

Warm-O-Rama

Better Call Saul did the Warmarama for us with Good Mornings, Abe Bagodas, Arm Circles, High Knees and Butt Kicks.  Once loosened up, we grabbed our coupons and for a mosey over the the hill.

The Thang

Bone Spur lead the first half with a Stairway to Heaven.  We did 10 Burpees to start, followed by a Bear Crawl part way up the hill to Merkins.  Continued Bear Crawls up to the next stop for some Good Mornings and then finishing our climb of Bear Crawls to the top for Squats.  We then ran down the hill and to the fire hydrant on the path and back for a rinse and repeat.   Awesome start to the battle!

For the second half, we started with 5 reps on the first exercise and increased in increments of 5 reps for a host of exercises that included Burpees, Shoulder Press, Coupon Swings, Merkins and Skull Crushers.  We ran the hill then continued with Curls, Squats, Lunges, Coupon Dips, and Side Straddle Hops.  Rinse and repeated until a little less than a minute left where we all ran the hill and back as a group.

Circle of Trust

Bone Spur had a great COT about breaking through barriers to achieve results that haven’t been achieved before.  It was based on Winston Churchill and the largest assault from sea that he helped to plan.  The quote was, “The positive thinker sees the invisible, sees the intangible, and achieves the impossible.”.  It was a great reminder to keep aiming higher and pushing our limits.

I shared for my COT an exercise to help demonstrate what mental illness might often feel like.  We widened our stances as wide as we could which helped to illustrate what our mental limits might be on any given day.  After 10 seconds or so, we found we could widen that just a little more as we continue to be counted on to expand our mental ability to deal with things.  I shared that a few months back, I had widened my stance so much I was completely on the ground.  I discussed the stigma of not being to ask for help to get back up when we find ourselves in that spot and how I need to overcome that.  I’m a very visual person and I hope that the PAX that were there today were able to relate just a bit more to those that might be struggling.

Naked Man Moleskin

We got King of the Q off to a great start today.  I loved the format and will reach out to others even after this contest is done to do more of these as it broke the workout up in a great and energetic way.
