Introduction

Rolled in to The Ridge Pool lot less than 5 hours into this new year to find Sparkler and DuckHunt getting their EC in — to no one’s surprise.  Lot was more like an ice skating rink so needed to figure out an alternate ~0.25mi lap — snow covered field to the NW looked as good an option as any.  Was cold but no wind.  Stage was set and conditions were perfect for this 1st BD BD of 2026.

Circle of Trust

Windshield time gives me time to either work — talk with clients, vendors, PMs, etc. — or to mull over certain topics. This past week gave me time to hone this CoT. I signed up for this BD a while back and started thinking through this CoT about as long knowing that there was a built in theme due to it falling on New Year’s Day.  I pondered the societal notion of treating New Years as a reset.  I have a hard time getting on board with that thought.  Good, bad or ugly the habits that we are looking to change do not get completely absolved or washed away; at the very least their memory remains.  Instead, we should think about New Years as an opportunity for positive dilution — stack good & positive habits to dilute the bad habits to the point where the old are indistinguishible. We are a product of our past experiences and we can use our past for motivation and to formulate discipline.  So, for this New Year — decide what habits you want to change, replace them and start your way to dilution.

Thanks to the 3 BAMFs that came out to brave the weather in order to punch their BD card early in ’26.  Today was a great effort by all the PAX.  Not gonna lie, I was uneasy regarding the design of this BD wanting something that would scale well for HCs, challenge PAX and push comfort zones.  I appreciate the AAR on the design and will run a version of this back with some tweaks at some point.  Happy New Year.
