Introduction

It was a bit windy as I rolled into the opposite side of the parking lot for a little EC run & it was heart warming to see an old face in Parks & Rec one of the OG’s from Naperville who I have always looked up to.  Also, the steady Eddy Toby & congrats to him on 3 years of sobriety & not to be left out Mr. Belding or what is left of him after he has lost 50 lbs in the last 6 months!!!!!

Needless to say it was some serious HIM’s out for a quick EC run.

This week in Q-Source we are talking about the leadership development process.  Today also happens to be Sean McVay’s birthday the youngest coach to ever when a Super Bowl at 36.  Think about that, what were you doing at age 36??  I had a 4 year old, 2 2 year olds, working a 9 to 5 job & just trying to survive.  I bring this up b/c Sean went through the LDP process.  He went to school studied sports science/coaching, played the game becoming an absolute book worm on football.  He then was hurled into APPRENTICSHIP with the Tampa Bay Bucs where he was able to hone his skills underneath the watchful eye of Jon Gruden. Then at 30 years old he was given OPPORTUNITY to be the head coach of the Rams where he was directly responsible for the outcome.  The rest is history right??  Wrong!  The 4th phase is the one many people forget & shy away from.  In year 1 he made it to the playoffs only to get knocked out in the 1st round, then followed it up by making it to the pinnacle of the sport only to fall short.  In year 3 they did not even make the playoffs & in year 4 once again got bounced from the playoffs early but he never quit learning & adjusting.  Year 5 he accomplished his goal to win a Super Bowl.  It is one story but I hope it reiterates that a lot of time all we see/remember are the successes & don’t reflect or appreciate the path to get there including failure along the way.  My challenge to you is to embrace failure & embrace the LDP process.  AYE!
