My first Black Diamond Q. I wanted to make it a good one for the PAX. I chose to include an element of competition, knowing those who showed up would push themselves and push each other.

The Thang

  1. A fast-paced Slingshot Run from the pool lot, through the main lot, up and over the hill a couple of times, and down the path to the football field near the gravel parking lot that’s south of the water tower.
  2. The 4-corner diamond chase.  The 6 PAX were intentionally paired up.
    1. The partners (opponents) start on the opposite corner of a small “inner” square
    2. On GO PAX do a prescribed exercise for a prescribed # of reps at your starting cone,
    3. When complete, move to the next corner of the “inner” square, but via a run around a cone placed 25 yards out
    4. Continue until one opponent catches the other. First time someone is caught, that
round is over for everyone, and we move to the next round
    5. We varied the exercises, reps, and the amount of head start the chased got from the pursuer
  3. A fast-paced Slingshot Run around the pond and down Grande Park Blvd back to the pool lot

Mary included running from the pool lot to the base of the hill, bear crawls in the pool lot, big boys, shakiras, LBCs and Freddie Mercurys

Circle of Trust

We discussed why it is important to get uncomfortable and how the lessons of getting uncomfortable help improve our lives outside of the gloom, not only in the gloom.

For me, pushing through the uncomfortable times in the gloom has helped me better control my emotions outside the gloom.  It’s easy to react emotionally to uncomfortable situations (anger, anxiety, fear, victimhood, etc.). It’s natural. But we often don’t perform our best or make the best decisions when we are overly emotional. Learning to deal with uncomfortable situations, and proving to myself that I can succeed in uncomfortable situations in the gloom, has helped me stay calm and in control, and at peak performance, in uncomfortable situations outside the gloom.  I shared a story of a recent uncomfortable situation at work and how I approached it.  I also shared how I THINK I would have approached it without the lessons and capabilities I’ve developed in the gloom.

So – embrace the uncomfortable.  Push yourselves. Do something that you don’t think you can.  There’s no better place to do this than in the gloom with your F3 brothers, because we leave no man behind.

Naked Man Moleskin

I’d like to thank Picasso, Mr. Belding, John Denver, Vern, and Bedpan for coming out, and showing confidence in me on my first black diamond Q. I also appreciate the AAR received. I consider executing a Q to be a craft, and we hone our craft over time. Thanks to everyone for bringing the heat this morning – I think everyone pushed hard and we embraced the spirit of the black diamond together!  Thanks to Picasso for excellent Site Q support and Bernie for making extra coffee so we could enjoy some fellowship with the other F3 men that were out at The Ridge this morning.
