Circle of Trust
I want to start my COT with this quote, “Focus on the solution not the problem.”
Everyone makes mistakes. It’s easy to get stuck dwelling on the mistake and waste valuable time and effort that could be put towards finding a solution to the problem. A good example for me would be yesterday, I was supposed to be doing a check on the utility design of a project that has been under design for a few months. Even before I started my new job. I caught a fairly significant mistake which will cause a redesign of a good portion of the utilities on this project. I was so frustrated last night because of the amount of rework and first found myself upset thinking how the hell could that mistake have made it this far. I stopped and took a quick break and then regrouped telling myself who cares who made the mistake of why but instead told myself that this needs to be fixed so I went to the beginning and checked the very basics on the site and work worked my way back. I set up a meeting for this morning with my team to work through this and use it as a learning experience for them of how we can avoid this in the future. The steps I take to check my work. Frustration dissipated and now we are working towards a viable solution. We talk about preparedness in q source. Preparedness towards the good and the bad help to let us keep our head in the various situations.
I challenge you to think about a recent time when you or someone else made a mistake that affected you. How did you react? Did you get hung up on the mistake and placing blame? OR did you focus on coming up with a solution? Next time you are in that situation how will you react?
