Circle of Trust
I grew up with a guy named Chuck who was a longtime lead carpenter in our construction business. Chuck was loved by everyone and a real craftsman but he always carried a huge belly. His “50 pound baby” and was weirdly proud of it. He retired years ago and I haven’t seen him in 6 years. This past week I noticed a guy walking around one of our jobs jobsites, when I went to talk to him it took me a while to realize it but it was Chuck. I didn’t recognize him as he lost 100 pounds. As we caught up i asked him how he lost the weight. In typical fashion his response was “I died”. Turns out at a family dinner he had a massive heart attack and died. Obviously they brought him back, but he went through hell over the next few years with surgeries and recovery. Now he lives a healthy lifestyle in his 70’s. As he was leaving he turned around and reminded me to take care of myself and not to “be like him”. That’s the plan for all of us, eat healthy, exercise, take care of yourself and….don’t be like Chuck!
