Introduction

Devotion boot camp starts at 5:15….but a hot start for the Dragon clan at 4:55.  Super windy morning, but dry.

The Dragons arrived and we jumped right into a Welsh Dragon ladder.  I proclaimed that the fastest PAX would hold the title as ‘Welsh Dragon’ for the rest of the week.  A Welsh Dragon is a 4 step bear crawl followed by a merkin, a plank jack, and a shoulder tap.  Always do a 4-step bear crawl each time, but the ladder consists of increasing the number of merkins – plank jacks – and shoulder taps each time, up to 10 reps of each.  And then back down the ladder to one.  By the end, you will have done 100 reps of merkins, plank jacks, and shoulder taps (along with bear crawling across the parking lot and back).

Picasso is our Welsh Dragon!

This took about 10 minutes, and for the last 5 minutes before the normal boot camp we did some Dragon 1,2,3s.  One Dragon Blockee, two Dragon Thursters, and 3 Dragon Burpees.  Go back to Foreclosure’s Initiation backblast from earlier this week if you want a recap of what those exercises are.

Warm-O-Rama

Jog in place while I went over the introduction and disclaimer.

Hit drill while I went over the F3 mission, core principles, and credo.

Extended world’s greatest stretch.

Mosey the run route around the parking lot.

The Thang

40 minutes of Mary: eight 5-minute core blocks with a run (not a recovery run, push that pace and then hold plank for 6 when you get back to the circle).

Block 1 (coupon work): Love sacks, flutter and scissor kicks with coupon overhead, big boys with coupon against chest.

Block 2 (CBCC): The Chum Bucket Crunch Circuit.  20 reps of 10 crunch exercises with no recovery in-between.

Block 3 (Inchworm circuit): Inchworm – Little orphan Annies – Inchworm – hillbillies – Inchworm – Nolan Ryans – Inchworm – hillbillies – Inchworm – Dancing Bears – Inchworm – hillbillies

Block 4 (Boat canoes): Alternated between boat and canoe (with some rowing) for a couple minutes and then went right into 100s.

Block 5 (Plank – squat waterfall): Form a circle in plank position.  Waterfall to squat position (however long you want to take on your turn in up to you).  Did two rounds, and then did a 30-second slow lower to the ground from plank position.

Block 6 (Swimmers and rowers): Alternated between swimmers and rowers for 3 rounds.  I did a different count each time just to mess with everyone.

Block 7 (Squat circuit): Not core, I know…but we did it anyhow.  2 rounds of squat jumps, squats, monkey humpers, and squat hold.

Block 8 (Hand slap line): Split into 3 groups of 6 or 7.  Hold high plank shoulder to shoulder.  First PAX plank walks down the line and does a merkin hand-slap with the PAX he’s across from.  Next PAX follows, and continue down the line.

Circle of Trust

According to the Oxford Dictionary, ‘devotion’ is love, loyalty, or enthusiasm for a person, activity or cause.  I mentioned in my preblast that there is a sharp difference between commitment and devotion.  To commit means to pledge, and thereby binding oneself to a word.  To devote means to freely give of ones time to a specific cause.  You see, commitment is good.  It is good to say “I will do this”, because it holds the promise and gives assurance to the person or cause you wish to commit to.  Yet, commitment is by word and word alone…while devotion is about the doing.  As men, we should talk the talk and walk the walk.  Be the man that others rely on.  Your commitment is important, but live up to those commitments.  Be devoted, and follow through with the things you commit to.

I read a parable from the Bible, from Matthew 21:28-30.  A man had two sons, and he came to the first and said ‘son, go work today in my vineyard.’  He answered and said ‘I will not’, but afterwards he regretted it and went.  Then the man came to the second son and said likewise, and the son answered ‘I will go sir’, but he did not go.

In this parable, the first son showed more devotion to his father.  Even though he disrespected his father in speech, he still honored him by going to the vineyard afterwards.

I leave you with this question to ponder: How many times have you committed to something, and then somewhere along the lines things got complicated and you don’t follow through?

Naked Man Moleskin

Always strive to get better.  One thing I know I have to work on is making sure I give clear direction.  I could’ve done better with the Welsh Dragon instructions.

I want to thank Millville and Foreclosure for giving me the opportunity to lead the Dragon clan today.  It’s an honor that I did not take lightly.

Congrats to the Welsh Dragon – Picasso!  And congrats on hitting the 500 post milestone today!

Thank you to Trifecta for having our 6, and thanks to Foreclosure for the coffee.
