Circle of Trust
Was inspired by @Flo’s WOW at the Ridge yesterday with a focus on the language that we use. I often use the word accountable- hold myself accountable, hold teams at work accountable, etc. As I reflected on this, the essence of accountability goes against my personal philosophy in leadership because in my mind, accountability creates a sense of compliance…. and I don’t like compliance. I don’t like it from the POV that compliance, in practice, often is an act of force or coercion. I am going to try (and encourage others) to shift their thinking internally and look at it through the lens of reliability. I want to be seen as reliable- to my M, my daughters, and my F3 brothers. I want to be counted on, and I want to peer-lead those that can be counted on. When I am reliable, I am accountable.
Language matters.
