Introduction
All PAX that HC’ed arrived early. They all looked locked in, ready to get to work. They knew we were going to be running in a dark forrest at an unfamiliar location but they put any fear and uncertainty aside with a goal to crush this 6 mile run.

The Thang
6 mile run from Joliet Black Road Public Library through Hammel Woods dirt trails. Ran to the boat launch and back.
Farlek style of run. 2 minutes at 5k pace effort (only be able to say 1 word), 2 minutes recovery pace (conversational pace)
Dropped glow sticks along the path so PAX members knew where to turn when there was a fork in the trail.
After the 2min of harder effort was up all PAX members turned around to reset with the 6 so everyone stayed fairly close together throughout the run and no one got lost in the woods.
Black diamond surprise was a ravine mid way where PAX ran a couple hill loop repeats
Got back 6min late so no time for MARY
Circle of Trust
Used symbolism from the run today to apply to life
PAX couldn’t see where they were going on the trail as it was so dark. All they could think about is where that next step would go to avoid tripping on a root.
Much like life, we often know where we want to go but don’t see everything that is in front of us to get there. So we procrastinate or never move forward with our goals/dreams. We keep waiting for the perfect moment.
To move on and move towards goals/dreams we just need to take a step in that direction. Build momentum, don’t wait for the perfect step/moment. You might make a step and trip (like Broomstick and I did during the run) but you get back up and keep that momentum moving towards your goal one step at a time even if every step isn’t perfect.
Naked Man Moleskin
Finished about 6minutes late which I apologize to the PAX for. If I ran this route again or this distance I would have the PAX come warm and ready for a hot start to give us that time back for the run.
The PAX kicked ass today! They were dripping with sweat and pushed it during the 2min hard efforts.
Thank you for putting your trust in me to lead you all into a dark forrest.
Overall, the trail we ran is a fun run. One of my favorite, local trails. All dirt path, lot of roots and uneven surfaces, ups and downs and turns. The trail keeps you engaged during the run.
