Introduction
Great weather with a temp around 51 degrees lined us up perfectly for the challenge that lied ahead this morning!
We already had 3 PAX out running. Since D-Bag needed to be back early, Sparkler and Storm Chaser joined him for an early step off.
Warm-O-Rama
0458 YHC covered the disclaimer, principles, mission, and credo while the PAX continued with pre-run stretching and warm-up’s.
0500 the group of 11 headed out towards The Olympiad.
The Thang
A not-so-simple 7ish mile run from The Wood to The Olympiad and back. In the pre-blast, I included a map of the route and noted that we’d need to maintain at least an 8:30 min/mile pace in order to make it back and be done by 0600.
Circle of Trust
Asked the men to ponder the question “are you running towards something or running away from something?” while I read through some of the points of the message that provided context to the question.
Bottom line, running from fear (living in fear) is not healthy, nor does it allow us to be our BEST. Fear doesn’t need to be “scary” in this context, it may have meaning to you in terms of “what is it you are avoiding?”.
Definine a PURPOSE or DIRECTION – this will help you determine a path that allows you to focus your energy on the positives and you’ll end up running towards who you want to be instead of just running out of fear.
Naked Man Moleskin
To be honest, I needed to reiterate this CoT for myself. I changed roles in my career recently and am on a very new team that is working in space within my company that I’ve never operated in; in other words, lately I’ve been living (working) in fear – fear of failing, fear of looking stupid, fear of wasting peoples time, fear of not making my leaders happy (given my fear that my performance is lacking), etc.
I NEEDED the challenge this morning and I’m grateful for the MEN that came out to push me through that fear, which allows me to focus my energy on the positives instead of letting fear guide me down a path of despair.
