Introduction

I was on a work trip to Tampa, FL the last few days and developed a plan for this beatdown while I was there. I arrived back home from from that trip last night around 10pm and was surprised to see the snow on the ground. The snow wouldn’t impact my plans, so I thought I was good to go.

When I woke up and took my dog out at 0430, I noticed all the ice, especially when I almost ate it on my sidewalk. That is when I knew I had to change my plans. I did just that and rolled with the punches for this one.

Warm-O-Rama

The Den Mother special [no matter how many times 5-Putt does this too, don’t let him convince you he came up with it ;)]

  • Warm-up mosey to get the blood flowing
  • Motivators from 7
  • Good Mornings IC x 10
  • Imperial Walkers IC x 12
  • Abe Vigodas IC x 10
  • Arm Circles IC x 10 (forward and reverse)

The Thang

Thang 1 – Coupon work in the Pavilion

  • I have a sheet I have used in the past with all 26 letters listed with an associated movement and rep count. I used this to decide the exercises we performed based on questions I asked each Pax.
  • By chance, we ended up doing lots of Big Boys, Catalina Wine Mixers, Curl, and Burpees.

Thang 2 – Mosey

  • The idea was to take a mosey lap around the lot. Morticia came up with a great idea – run the perimeter of the lot in the grass. That kept us away from the ice in the lot.
  • We ran around until we arrived at the hill for Thang 3…

Thang 3 – DORA at the Hill

  • Partner A – 10 reps of each the movements in BLIMPS
  • Partner B – Run halfway up the hill; perform 5 clock Merkins at 12,3,6,9; run to the top of the hill for 10 SSH; run back to partner

Thang 4 – Jailbreak to the Field

  • Once in the field we did Motivators from 7, but the cadence was double-time from 6 down.
  • Run back to the Pavilion for a bit more of the coupon work in Thang 1

Mary

  • Captain Thors IC to 6×24
  • Morties (we got to 6 Big Boys)

Circle of Trust

Last week’s Q Source covered Team Missionality. Quatro does a great job in helping us apply Q Source ideas to our families and I am thankful for that. As such, I decided to apply the concepts from Team Missionality to my most important team, my family. I decided to develop a mission for my family. I first thought about what our purpose is, and then considered the tasks needed to carry out that purpose. I came up with an initial draft and took it to my wife Mary. Her and I then modified it and came up with the following Klett Family Mission:

Develop, strengthen, and maintain supportive, loving, and trusting relationships with each other in order to encourage and assist each other to recognize their own worth and achieve their full potential.

We sat down with the kids and read the above and explained what it meant. Not 10 minutes after that discussion, two of the kids started a small argument. My 8 year old daughter stopped and said, “Mission!” A slight pause ensued, and then I saw what we had just talked about resonate with the kids and the argument was stopped in its tracks.

It is now my job as the leader of my family to reinforce our mission. I have already seen its impacts, and look forward to how it will help us come closer together moving forward.

I encourage all Pax to think about what the mission should be for their families, relationships, and themselves.

Naked Man Moleskin

My PreBlast for this beatdown included this phrase: “As you should always, be prepared for anything.” That held true for me as I had to adapt on the fly to the conditions at the AO. While my original plans fell through, I think this beatdown ended up being better than what I had originally planned.
