The Thang
Different style this morning. Purposefully designed to A) keep everyone in the group B) not know what’s coming next and C) as Vern so eloquently described, emulating the “mind-fuckery” of life.
Overall Thang: Moving from station to station (spots around the AO) as a group, and performing exercises at each location. Each station held an envelope with exercises written on the front. Inside the envelope was a clue to the next station. Perform the exercise, then read the clue, then move to the next spot.
How we stirred it up: Each exercise required a different PAX to lead in cadence. If an exercise is repeated at the next station, the same PAX leads. ex: if PAX 1 led burpees at the first spot, they lead at the second one, third, etc. The group MUST stay in group as we moved. AND we only had 35 minutes to complete. If we missed that window, we did burpees for Mary. The whole time. If we made it, only stretching for Mary.
Here’s how it went:
Pavilion: 10 burpees (Clue: Head to a place where Jordan held court, where Pippen helped out, and Rodman did snort)
Basketball court: 10 burpees, 10 bobby hurleys, 10 jump squats (Clue: Migrate to the standard, the beacon of freedom, where F3 calls home and men shed their weakness)
Flag: 10 burpees, 10 bobby hurleys, 10 jump squats, 10 blockees (Clue: From here you’ll see the Crossroads of old – two old friends who’ve gone very cold. It’s a great view of regular sledding fame – it’s where Woody, Boston, and Dilly got named.)
TAKE COUPON WITH YOU FROM HERE.
Top of Hill: 10 burpees, 10 bobby hurleys, 10 jump squats,10 blockees , 20 leg lifts (Clue: Why the hell is this here? There ain’t no buses round these parts, guess it’s a pit stop to crush our hearts. A random shack along the path, don’t waste your time and move your ass)
Bus stop: PENALTY of 20 Burpees for not staying in the group. 10 Burpees, 10 bobby hurleys, 10 jump squats, 10 blockees, 20 leg lifts, 20 merkins. (Clue: Where the kids play is where we’ll go next, pull your britches up, and don’t get vexed)
Playground: 10 burpees, 20 merkins, 50 LBCS
No clue on this one – just follow the Q back up to top of hill. 10 Bobby Hurleys, 20 leg lifts, 10 jump squats. Jogged back to the Flag. Took a circuitous route to ensure we showed up LATE.
Mary: ALL BURPEES to 6.
Circle of Trust
CoR, AAR, Announcements, NoR – lot of feedback here during AAR. Tweety called out the challenge of keeping good form when performing the same exercise over and over. Vern called out how this felt like life – unknown, unplanned, having to adapt. Good chatter here as the PAX attempted to understand what they just went through.
Naked Man Moleskin
Today was all about executing as a group – sticking together as a group – especially during unexpected or unknown times. Everything that happened today was purposefully planned though – even if it didn’t feel like it. It was more chaotic then maybe you were used too (In relations to Q’s I’ve led before). You didn’t know what was coming next, nor where it was coming from, nor if you would actually have time to complete everything. What you did know was that you’ve done the best you can to prepare, and you aren’t doing it alone.
In life, we don’t know what’s coming next, nor do we know how much time we have. Life will have very unexpected turns. Sometimes we’re the ones experiencing unexpected turns, other times we walk alongside another man who is experiencing one. We cannot possibly be prepared or have a plan for all them. Usually they all involve a lot of suck, and it never works according to any timeline we want. It’s no fun. But there IS a plan, a purpose to everything that is happening – we just can’t see it, and it definitely doesn’t feel like it. But we must go through them. Just don’t do it alone. So whether you’re having an unexpected turn or not, leave no man behind, leave no man where you found him.
