Number of FNGS: 0

QIC: Deja Vu

Introduction

This was week 2 of the IPC and included a series of 400M runs. Knowing it was going to be dark, YHC got out there early and used white lanterns to mark 100M and 200M distances from the flags so the run could be an out and back.

Also, because I love the PAX and want them to be safe as they are getting the most out of the workouts, YHC used orange lanterns to mark the speedbump on the road they would be running so no one would wipe out and twist and ankle or smash their mush.

Warm-O-Rama

There was no Warm-O-Rama. This was a 45 minute burner with a hot start at 5:15.

Circle of Trust

Six weeks ago, we went to the 60th birthday party for a guy who married a 35-year plus dear friend of ours. Over the 5 years they’ve been together, married for the last two, he has become a friend also. It was kind of a pain to go to the party because it was in Indian Head Park (near Western Springs and La Grange) and we had two graduation parties that day, the second one had a food truck, good music and a really fun group of people.  But we made the effort, we went, we didn’t fartsack.  And I’m glad we did because we got there late as most of the other people were leaving.  They were thrilled to see us and we got to be part of that small group of 10-12 close friends hanging out after the party, telling stories and doing shots into the early parts of the morning.

Two weeks later, they went to CA for a wedding in Napa. On the Friday afternoon before the wedding that night, he had a stroke.  He was in the hospital in CA for 4 weeks.  He finally got clearance to travel back home a week ago Friday.  Then on Monday, after he had been home for 2 days, he had a heart attack and died.  We just went to his “Celebration of Life” on Saturday.

It sucked. Our dear friend has dated some real shitheads and tools over the last 3 and a half decades, but this was a good guy who absolutely cherished her. And now he’s gone and she is without him … for the rest of her life.  It is so sad.

It was awesome.  He was someone who cast a big shadow and many of the people there got up and told how he had influenced, inspired, or mentored them.  Many of us there didn’t even know each other, but we were all bound by the impact he had made on everyone who was ever around him.

The point is: Go to shit. Show up. Be present. Appreciate the other people and be someone others appreciate. Cherish the moments. Because when that big Q in the sky taps someone on the top of the head – BooP – and says “its’ time for you to come home,” that’s it, we all have to figure out how to go on without that person.  Or if you’re the one called, everyone in your life has to go on without you.

For this Q, with the workout prescribed, I tried to focus all of my effort on how to make it better, safer, more effective for the Pax. It was all about the Pax.  Along with the lights, I brought out a pail of driveway chalk so they could all track their number of 400M runs, there was much appreciation. The Q does not have to push the Pax, they are there because they want to push themselves.  The Q needs to give them clear instructions on an effectively designed workout and a safe AO.  Q provides the structure, Pax WILL provide the effort.
