Introduction
Up early to get a start on merkin challenge & to say it was cold was an understatement. At this point Mother Nature is just messing with us & if anyone ever doubted that the wind is the great equilizer I say you are crazy. After a couple miles & 80 merkins we got to work.
It was great to see Shiplap out for back to back days after his FNG day yesterday!!!

In the F3 book Freed to Lead Dredd talks about the concept of a rowing competition & how there are 4 sections to that competition. The last 400 meters is like the 4th Quadrant from the Q-Source “Legacy”. In about 30 days I will turn 45 (just starting my 3rd 400-meter row where the starting line is a distant memory but the finish line is still ahead). Over the last couple of years, I have been thinking a lot about this & what kind of legacy I am leaving for my family. This past week 3 events happened in my life:
- My daughter had her 1st major dance recital. She was nervous as could be but worked her but off in preparation. She absolutely crushed it & she was so happy with completing this “hard” thing.
- My son had his 4th acting play but this time he had a lead role with a ton of speaking. He was super nervous he was going to forget his lines, so we rehearsed over & over…& over. He crushed it!
- My wife helped execute the 1st ever Diversity Fair at Grande Park as part of the PTA & it was an amazing event with great feedback & now someone who was deafly afraid of holding a public position in anything is contemplating a bigger role with the PTA next year.
The other night at dinner I shared how proud I was of everyone & asked my kids how they got so BRAVE. They said sometimes you just must do scary & hard things even though you might be scared, you know like you do Dad in the things you have been scared of or are hard (I’m not crying…your crying).
Men, you never know who is watching. Why do we do hard things like ruck 17 miles overnight or contemplate running a half marathon or help at the local food pantry. Not b/c we are trying to boost our own egos but b/c we are trying to leave a legacy on those that see us. Keep being comfortable being uncomfortable & go do something hard so that you continue to leave a legacy. AYE!!!
