Introduction

I initially signed up to Q at Three Rivers and bring my own burner.  I was told later that this was a WoW workout.  At first I thought F@&K, i have to create a themed workout.  Gopher invited to the WoW channel and Chum Bucket had taken the lead on creating a solid burner.  I needed to refresh myself on the Chapter from QSource regarding the M.

It was a cold morning and those coupons froze our hands.

The Thang

Goal: The goal of this WOW is to educate about what the “M” is, find out where it lies on the concentrica, and develop the skills needed to enjoy life with the M through the 5 points of marital preparedness that the HIM must focus on to avoid committing relationship malpractice.

 

Preparation: You will need 6 cones.  One in the center, and 5 cones in a star formation evenly spread out from the center about 25 yards out from the center cone.  At each cone you will need to have a sign representing the M in the center and the 5 points of marital preparedness (see the workout for what to put on each sign).

 

Definitions:

M – the transformative relationship between a man and his wife.  The M is the HIM’s most important relationship.

Concentrica – the set of circular rings formed by a man’s most Proximate relationships.  At the bullseye of the Concentrica is the M, the one upon which all of his other relationships are founded.

 

Start workout like we would normally with Disclaimer, Core Principles, Mission, and Credo.  Keep the PAX moving while you go through this information (ex. Jog in place, etc)

 

WoR: Q’s choice

 

The Thang – 5 points of marital preparedness (basically a hybrid of IPC2 “Belle Ringer” and the Anatomy of a Blockee).  Beatdown is performed OYO, you vs. you, push yourself to get as many rounds in as possible.

 

Start at center cone, which represents the M: the HIM’s most important relationship.

  • Perform 5 blockees
  • Rifle carry coupon to Point 1

 

Point 1: Maintenance = Decceleration.

  • Perform 10 Burpees
  • Murder bunny (if on grass, or farmer carry if on pavement) back to center
  • Perform 5 blockees
  • Rifle carry coupon to Point 2

 

Point 2: The Culture is a Jester.

  • Perform 15 Thrusters
  • Murder bunny (if on grass, or farmer carry if on pavement) back to center
  • Perform 5 blockees
  • Rifle carry to Point 3

 

Point 3: There is no Fifty Yard Line.

  • Perform 20 coupon deadlifts
  • Murder bunny (if on grass, or farmer carry if on pavement) back to center
  • Perform 5 blockees
  • Rifle carry to Point 4

 

Point 4: Your Wife is not Your Best Friend.

  • Perform 25 merkins
  • Murder bunny (if on grass, or farmer carry if on pavement) back to center
  • Perform 5 blockees
  • Rifle carry to Point 5

 

Point 5: Joy Trumps Happiness.

  • Perform 30 air squats
  • Coupon mosey around the outside perimeter of the 5-point ring (symbolizing the concentrica as a whole, that the M is the center/foundation of all other relationships within) and then back to center
  • Start back from beginning with 5 blockees, and keep going on repeat until Mary…

Circle of Trust

CoT:  By focusing on the 5 points of marital preparedness, the HIM ultimately develops the skills he needs to enjoy life with his M, the most important relationship.  In this workout, the M is symbolized by the complex blockee exercise, in which the 5 different simpler exercises will help develop.  The beatdown layout as a whole also symbolizes the circular bullseye shape of the Concentrica, with the blockee (M) at the center.  We will be learning about the other relationships within the Concentrica outer rings in future weeks, but know that your relationship with your M is the one upon which all other relationships are founded.  That is why we continued to go back to the center after each exercise, and why we circled the entire perimeter after all 5 exercises were performed.  The M is the HIM’s transformative relationship because he becomes something new.  Before marriage, a man is an “I”, but afterward he is part of an “Us”.  The HIM puts most of his focus on the M, because if that fails, the rest of his relationships will fail as well.  Marriage is a Team, not a Community.  It requires Proximity and purpose to succeed.  It transforms a man from a selfish Happiness-junkie into a selfless Joy-seeker.  The HIM knows if he fails at his M, nothing else he does will matter.
