Introduction
YHC had not Q’d a Run Club in some time so decided to get back into the ring! Threw out to PAX that when they HC to include anything sort of RC workout they would like to do, if they had a preference. No bites. I also asked PAX to provide 5k pace to ensure I knew the capabilities of the PAX participants. I also suggested that the PAX come in early or warmup at home as we would be departing the AO shortly after 0515. Although I didn’t see any forecasted precipitation for today there was a little bit of flurries, but the planned route appeared fine.
Warm-O-Rama
We skipped the Warm-O-Rama and got right into the running portion of the workout. Prior to departure we did get a count, did identify who had a phone on them, did identify who amongst us was medically trained
The Thang
Run as a group on the following route. Wesmere north, right on Caton Farm, right on Pebble Beach, right on Theodore back to the school. At the onset I had a few PAX that had 9:30-10:00 m/mile paces lead the front as the goal was to stay together. There were a few unplanned stops to close the gap between the front and the six. During the short stops the PAX did a few burpees on YHC up/down and also opportunity to do some on their own. We all returned to the flags at approximately 0556. Where we did a few static stretches and then YHC asked a few PAX to tell the rest of the group their WHY? Why they come out, what is motivating them, etc.
Circle of Trust
Chum Bucket took care of the announcements and then we got into YHC COT for today. In light of all the recent news regarding people having heart issues resulting in death or near death, YHC ran across another excerpt from an audio book he’s been listening to that spoke about the heart, but in a different manner.
Listen To Your Heart
(Excerpt from The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren)
Your heart represents the source of all your motivations, what you want to do, what you care about most. It’s been said that “as a face is reflected in the water so the heart reflects the person”. Your heart reveals the real you. What you truly are, not what others think you are or what circumstances force you to be. Your heart determines why you say the things you do, why you feel the way you do, and why you act the way you do. Physically each of us has a unique heart just like we have a unique thumb print, eye prints, and voice prints. Our hearts beat in slightly different patterns. Out of the billions of people that have ever lived no one has ever had a heartbeat exactly like yours.
We also all have unique emotional heartbeats that race when we think about the subjects, activities, and circumstances that interest us. We instinctively care about some things and not about others. There are certain subjects you feel passionate about and there are others you could care less about. Some experiences turn you on and capture your attention while others bore you to tears. These reveal the nature of your heart. Don’t ignore these natural interests. There is a reason you love to do those things. Use your natural interests to serve others. How do you know when your serving others from your heart? When you’re doing what you have to do, nobody has to motivate you, or challenge you, or check up on you. You do it for sheer enjoyment. You don’t need rewards, applause, or payment because you love serving in this way. Listen To Your Heart and Serve Others. Aye!
Continuing with my goal of getting our PAX acquainted with or reacquainted with the “Ball of Man”, I asked the PAX in attendance to join me in TAPs.
Naked Man Moleskin
YHC was elated to learn that @Six Sheets was able to get a PR for distance and that this was a @Dear Abby first formal Run Club! Several PAX reminded @Bunny Hill it’s okay to call himself a runner despite him not thinking he is 🙂 YHC was also moved by those Men who shared a little bit of WHY they come out in the gloom and do what they do. It was great to walk into DD for Coffeeteria and see the bearded @Boston Butt whose been taking care of his M and 2.0s! Just a reminder to lean in on your WHY especially when you get in a rut, get tired, lose focus, etc. If your WHY isn’t motivating, you then that WHY is either not as important as you think or you need a new WHY! Lastly, Listen to Your Heart! There’s a unique message in there for each of us!
