Introduction

YHC wanted to push the PAX a little and of course himself so decided to add a little more distance and the beginning and end of this Black Diamond beatdown.  Also wanted to give PAX an opportunity to choose their hard with the middle portion of the beatdown, but they had to stick with the choice they made. Several PAX that we’re doing the monthly burpee challenge and 75 Hardish, so YHC reached out to them separate and made subtle hints that they would get their burpees in.  Figured it was the least YHC could do.  Toby was looking for an EC partner to get a few miles in before the beatdown.  Thinking we would get close to 4 miles in running for the beatdown YHC was a little leery to commit, but then got over himself and HC’d (so did Dilly Dilly and John Denver), Why? because it wasn’t about us!

Change Your Auto Pilot

(excerpt from The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren)

To change your life. You must change the way you think.  Behind everything you do is a thought.  Every behavior is motivated by a belief and every action is prompted by an attitude.  Be careful how you think because your life is shaped by your thoughts.  Imagine riding in a speed boat on a lake with the auto pilot set to head east.  Let’s say you want to reverse and  head west.  Two possible ways to change boat direction.  One way is to grab steering wheel and physically force it in the opposite direction that the auto pilot is set to go.  By sheer willpower you could overcome the autopilot but would feel constant resistance.  Your arms would tire to stress, you’d let go of the steering wheel and and the boat would instantly head back east the way it was internally programmed.  This is what happens to you when you try to change your life with will power.   You say I’ll force myself to eat less, to exercise more, to quit being disorganized and late.   Yes willpower can produce short term change.  But it also creates constant and internal stress because you haven’t dealt with the root cause.  The change doesn’t feel natural so eventually you give up, you go off your diet, and you quit exercising.  You quickly revert to your old patterns.

There’s a better and easier way.  Change….your auto pilot. Change the way you think.  Change always starts first in your mind, the way you think.  The way you think determines the way you feel.  The way you feel influences the way you act.  Change Your Auto Pilot!   Change Your Mind!  Aye!

TAPS (Thoughts and Prayers)

We don’t prescribe to any specific religion but we are faith based believing in something bigger than ourselves. Some of us express that faith through prayer and others through a moment of silence.  It had been quite sometime since I was part of a Ball of Man so we made this happen. Encourage other PAX to get back to making this the standard again

First and foremost thanks to Sparkler for having our Six and Quatro for providing coffee afterwards.  Appreciate the AAR by the PAX as well, but most importantly I appreciate the effort I witnessed from Sparkler, Dauber, Pull-Up, Soft Hands, Toby, John Denver, Picasso, Betty Crocker, Dilly Dilly, Bob Villa, and Goose.  On paper the beatdown looked difficult, but it’s one thing to come up with a beatdown and another to do it.  The aforementioned PAX crawled out of their fartsacks to do hard shit and that’s what YHC witnessed.  When a a PAX tells you he’s never burned 1200 calories before 6am that truly is a testament to how hard these PAX pushed themselves in the gloom today!  Love you men!
