Introduction

Arrived at the Ridge (main lot) at 4:45am to meet Bunker-SQ and set up the Thang.  Weather was warmer than expected which kept the light rain from the night before from freezing.  No ice was a welcome surprise, however I knew this beatdown was not ideal for slick conditions.  Since conditions were not ideal I tried to provide some additional information about the beatdown to the PAX as they arrived and they had to choose between which weight they wanted to bring with: ruck/sandbag/coupon.  Most PAX chose ruck, Bone Spur hedged his bet with weighted vest and dropped a coupon at the base of the hill.  I elected to use a coupon only.

Circle of Trust

The past few months have been a whirlwind of changes and 3 things really stick out to me when reflecting on the times.

#1: First and foremost, THANK YOU to everyone for the support from this community that my family has felt as my M recovers from surgery.  We would not have been able to be where we are right now if not for this great group.

#2: Allow Others to Help.  Change is never easy, and we don’t need to carry the burden ourselves.  Over the past few months the roles my M and I have had in the house with kids, careers, and family have changes many times. Things aren’t going to be done the way they were before and there may be a different standard, and that is okay. Adapt to the adversity and you will find that things that you once thought were extremely important may not be anymore.

#3: Set boundaries. As roles change we need to prioritize what is important to us. For me that now means putting my phone aside when I am done with work so that I can connect with my family, the rest can usually wait until later. Also, it is okay to say, no. Sometimes we need to be selfish and that is fine as long as it is not truly hurting others.

Naked Man Moleskin

There was not a lot of mumble chatter as heart rates were kept sky high. I have been wanting to do a version of this beatdown for quite some time, however the slick conditions definitely added an unexpected element.  Coupons, and weight in general, were not ideal for the slick conditions on the hill so emphasis was on form and not speed. AAR provided some valuable thoughts on how to stay ahead of the conditions while using various weights safely.  No injuries and everyone got stronger this morning!
