Introduction
Five out of the seven men attending put in some extra credit work. 3 Men went off on a Ruck early and Pull Up and I went on a run. I felt there was awesome mumble chatter. I enjoyed my conversation with Pull Up and I broke the groups apart so there was a four man and a three man team and us four men, Pull Up, Rooney, Piston, and YHC talked for most of the beatdown…. In between, trying to catch our breath. I had fun with this smaller group and hope the Men that I was with enjoyed and got as much out of today as I did!

The Thang
Hill Rounds. Rounds Consists of Round 1 – Moving Weight, Round 2- Legs and Cardio, and Round 3 Core and Abs.
Round 1 – Weight
Partner 1 Does Coupon Curls until all 2s get to the top of the hill and wave flag. Upon seeing the flag wave Partner 1 begins Thrusters until the flag is waved again.
Partner 2 Lines all coupons up in a straight line approaching the base of the hill. The Coupons have to be placed a body length apart. The coupons move in an Indian Run line fashion up the hill. The inanimate coupon gets help moving from the Pax. Plank next to your coupon until you are the last in line. Step over your coupon and Bear Crawl, on the other side of the plank line, up the hill to the front and get back into plank. Once an individual gets to the top of the hill, start Coupon Merkins. Once everyone is at the top. Wave the flag so that Partner 1 switches from Coupon Curls to Thrusters. Once flag is waved, Partner 2 Crawl Bears down the hill, Performs 10 shoulder taps, Bear Crawls back up the hill. Once back at the top the Individual does Coupon Merkins until their groups 6 is in. Upon the return of all men Wave the Flag again.
After the second flag is waved, Men slowly mosey down from the top of Mt. Wood with Coupons and Men and the bottom begin setting their coupons in the Straight line for their coupon Indian Run. Bear Crawl Coupon Drag / Plank thang. (Jobs are switched to complete Round)
Round 2 – Legs and Cardio
Partner 1 Performs Prisoner Down/Ups until Flag is Waved. Once the flag is waved, switch exercises to Goblet Squats until the flag is waved a second time,
Partner 2 jogs 1 lap around the base of Mt. Wood. Once they arrive back at partner 1s area, Bernie Sanders up the hill and perform 20 Smurf Jacks at the top. Start Prisoner Down/Ups until the groups 6 is in and Wave flag. Once the flag is waved, Crawl Bear Down, perform 10 Copper Head Squats, Sprint up, Prisoners until 6 is in. Wave flag a second time. Jog down hill. (Jobs are switched to complete Round)
Round 3
Partner 1 does Big Boys until flag is waved and then switches exercises. Partner 1 then does Skull Crushers on your back, more core focused than standing, until flag is waved again.
Partner 2 Bear Crawl Up Hill, with feet facing down hill perform 20 Leg lifts, with head facing down hill perform 10 Big Boys. Stay in this position and begin LBCs until groups 6 is in. Once all men are done wave the flag. Crawl Bear down the backside of hill, perform 10 plank jacks at the bottom, bear crawl back up. Abdominal/low Plank until 6 is in. Wave flag a second time. Jog down hill. (Jobs are switched to complete Round)
Jog down hill. All Men grab Coupons and Mosey back to the lot for CoT
If there is time back at the lot, group up with partner for partner burpees until 6.
Circle of Trust
My actual CoT was much more personal than this and more elaborate in detail. This is a condensed version that will work in this format while leaving off specifics.
Each Component of this beat down was about looking out for your 6 and being observant. When we were split in half you had to continuously move until everyone was done. 1 half had to signal the other half. This beatdown could only be successful if we were constantly looking out for each other and supporting one another.
This is a Men’s workout group but so much more. The way we embrace hard things here make it that much easier to do hard things throughout the rest of your day. The way we support, look out for each other, become the right person in the gloom, the easier it is to maintain these practices outside of the gloom as well. My wife got into some trouble with my daughter on Sunday. She was out holiday shopping and noticed something was not right. She got security involved and my young daughter and wife were escorted to their car and out of harm’s way. She was able to be the right person because she was socially aware and vigilant.
She did exactly what she needed to do to keep herself and our daughter safe. I am proud of how socially intelligent, aware, and vigilant she was in the moment. As she told me what had happened, I got angrier and angrier and realized I probably wouldn’t have handled the situation as well. There would have been a confrontation to which she replied. How do you know that he didn’t have a knife, a gun, or was there with several people, just waiting?
As you leave the gloom, leave with the mentality of having each others’ 6. Realize the necessity to constantly be aware. Finally, in a trying moment, it is always important to be the right person and have the right mindset. More times than not, cooler minds prevail.

It was a good day in the gloom. There was a lot of reflection and connections between gloom life and normal life.
