Introduction
This was a Pearls on a String route through three rivers that followed a theme through CoT.
The entire theme of the beat down was about being beat down. It was the first accumulated snow and I felt it would be mentally and physically exhausting to get down in it a lot.
Character is never formed when you are down and just stay there. Character is formed by what follows…. How quickly do you get back up? Do you help someone else up? etc….
I also asked Blue Gill to call Air Squats until failure by our first stop, the elementary school, while we were on our EC run and as soon as the words came out of my mouth I somewhat took them back. I remember pivoting to, “close to your failure” and changed again to “when you start noticing others seem like their form is falling apart or their uncomfortable” and ultimately ended that conversation with at least 60….. Might of not been a good idea to request Bluegill call downs until he gets tired. Might still be there.

Arm Circles 10 forward 10 back
Jog in place with 5 burpees
30 Side Straddle Hops all in Cadence I asked to go silent after the first 10 and just follow movement Cadence and go silent with me. I said we would have to all stop together at 20. (Dilly Dilly did this one time in a beat down and I thought it was cool). Some Men had their Cadence off before we got to ten and a few kept counting after 10. We stopped at 12 because I was frustrated. We did 5 more burpees, I explained what I was looking for again and we started the 30 again. We did it almost perfectly the second time through. We counted off by two and then took off in two lines on an Indian Run towards Galloway Elementary School.
The Thang
Indian Run Pearls on a string with “Suck” stops.
Two Indian Run lines traveled a little over a 1/4 of a mile to the front of Galloway Elementary School where we circled up in front of the school and did 5 burpees. This was the leg stop so we then did Air Squats. Bluegill called down 60x to complete air squats. The next move was only about 100 yards so we did not reform Indian Run Lines. We briskly mosey’d to the back parking lot. I got in front of the group to assign parking spots as men came in. We held plank in parking lot until 6 was in. In plank, I asked the first pax to do 3 Merkins and run to the end of the line. We went down the lot and back. Upon returning, Men were asked to hold a forearm plank to the side of the parking lot until everyone was finished.
We got back in our two Indian Run lines and took off towards the junior high and fitness center. (About 1/4 of a mile.). Once we arrived at the baseball field, we circled up and did 5 burpees. We used the third base (Team 1) and first base (Team 2) bleachers by the baseball field by this school to do 100 Irkins and 25 Dirkins.
We formed our Indian Run lines again and took off. We followed another trail out to begin heading back to the lot and aquatic center. We ran close to 1/2 mile to get back. We Ran into the closest baseball field to the lot and stopped in right field where we circled up. We did 5 burpees. In left field I called for 100 down and ups. You dropped to your chest and got back up however you wanted. You could use hands, knees, legs. It was a little ambitious and was going to effect Mary. We ended up stopping at 60. We ran back to the lot where we circled up and did 5 burpees.
In the lot. We did down and backs of Bear Crawls, Moving Peter Parkers, and Crocodile Walkers. Crocodile Walkers are like a elliptical stair climber but just done in Plank Position. I q’d up Moving Peter Parkers at the O the Thursday before and didn’t think it was all that successful. I wanted to see if The Crocodile Walker was an easier movement for all men. I think going to the side hindered forward progress too much and it makes the Moving Peter Parkers take forever. We ended Mary with a Sprint for the Challenge Flag. Crabgrass won. Da Coach!
Circle of Trust
I don’t like feeling like I should embrace failure because it is almost like inviting or celebrating it. I don’t mind failing. I do believe something similar to the previous statement. You should never live in fear of failure. I say this a lot to art students. If we are not failing every now and again, it is pretty good sign that you aren’t doing anything new, innovative, trailblazing, etc. If you are too safe with everything you are doing and are unwilling to take risks you will never accomplish much.
When Thomas Edison spoke to his two porch neighbors in Ft Myers Florida about inventing the light bulb they both told him that he would never get it and that he should give up. His neighbors were also brilliant people that everyone knows. Edisons porch buddies were Goodyear and Ford. One revolutionized rubber and started a tire company while the other started a motor industry. In response to his nearly 2,000 failures at lightbulb invention, Edison smiled and said, I learned 2,000 ways how not to make a light bulb.
What can we learn from Edison? This is to say. He took careful notes and never did the same exact method that already failed. He eventually figured it out. Failure is only a problem if you don’t learn from it.
Getting down, falling down in the snow, getting knocked down isn’t that big of a deal. The big deal is what we learn from it and how quickly we get back up. Character is never measured when you are on the ground complaining about being there. Character is measured by what you do next. Always get back up Men!
Naked Man Moleskin
I wanted to get a video of the Crocodile Walker’s for Pi like they were doing in his video but. I have a feeling the men in that video practice that a lot. I might do a Q where that is the main goal. It looks super cool when everyone is in a straight line doing this.
