Circle of Trust
Talked about the resiliency of our 2.0s and how they are much stronger than we give them credit for at times. Yesterday my daughter was involved in the incident at the Plainfield Middle School that had the threat. After numerous texts from the neighbors who received a message from the school( my message was delayed due to the phone traffic due to the situation) asking what was going on. I received a text from Disco Ball asking if I heard from my daughter and if I knew what was going on. Still at this point I had no information and my daughter was not answering my texts. I left work and raced towards her school like most parents would trying to figure out what was going on and concerned about my daughter. I was prepared to park at Disco’s house and run to the school if that is what I had to do. About half way there I received a text from my wife that said our daughter texted her from a friends phone and that she was ok and safe at the neighboring school they evacuated too. Instantly I was relieved and as I continued on the drive to my house I tried to put myself in the shoes of her school staff. If this happened at my school would my staff and students be prepared to handle such an intense situation? As an educator I know we practice these drills and kids do not always take them seriously but was glad to know in this situation her school and students got it right. I was worried about what getting home an hour late from school with no phone( this was probably the worse part), no chromebook or backpack or literally anything she went to school would impact her. We started to talk about the situation and she said “Dad, we practice these things just like you do. Our teacher told us to line up leave our things and we were exiting the building and that is what we did. She had a snack like she always does, got ready for soccer practice and went on with her day with out a hitch in her step. While I know this may not be the case for everyone, she handled the situation much better than I anticipated and for that I am grateful. Her teachers and staff kept them calm and safe and had a plan that they executed to the best of their ability and that is all we as parents can ask for, but in the end I am glad that our kids are more resilient than we sometimes give them credit for. Trust that they know what to do and how to do it because that is what we as parents have taught them as well as their teachers over the years.

This was the second best Q that I have led and what a way to follow it up after last weeks Week 0 IPC burner. In all seriousness I absolutely love being on Q for the IPC workouts. Not only does it force you to participate in the workout, it is fun to figure out how to lead and set it up for all pax to be successful. These are definitely some of the best workouts I have been a part of and I look forward to being on Q for next weeks as well!
