Introduction
It is a Friday in Plainfield. 5 AOs open and great options. The ridge was on fire for the very hyped QvsQ. I’m on Q for a RC. I called in some reinforcements from my Shield Lock in Naperville and my ragnar / Hood to Coast team to join me in the gloom. They answered the call and got to meet some new Plainfield PAX. It was a brisk morning and perfect to break a sweat in.

Circle of Trust
This morning was a great example of always having something to train for / achieve and the power of a shield lock. The IMPACT GTE30 had on our region has been amazing. Many PAX upped their training to get as prepared physically for one of the hardest things they will do in their life. Having something to train for / achieve makes those EC rucks, carrying extra weight, etc more worth it. Training with friends is even better. Now what???? GTE30 is behind us. We grew from it but now what? As soon as GTE30 was over I changed my mindset for my new challenges. Completing Ragnar Bourbon Chase and Hood to Coast. Time to step up my running training.
Taking a play from Parks n Rec’s playbook, he gave me some ideas on other ways to train for a running event. Was a bit nervous on how it would work out for my run club. I think it went pretty well. It was an even better experience to share this Q with the PAX of plainfield and my shield lock. Training with your friends and brothers in the gloom is an amazing experience. A shield lock is something that takes time. You start by getting to know the PAX of your region, have mumble chatter, conversations over coffee, and repeat. Eventually you take the leap of faith to engage another PAX and see if they want to grab lunch or a drink. Get to know them on a bit of deeper level. Maybe get them and their M out for a date night. Some PAX my see a shield lock as clicky but they are not. It is a deep bound formed by holding each other accountable and pushing them to better themselves. It did not happen overnight but now these men are a core part of life. We travel together, camping, bonfires, and even our M’s hang out together. Take the risk to reach out to another PAX and form that relationship. Not everytime will it work out and don’t take offense. You will naturally find those men you can trust and encourage each other to become better versions of themselves.
