Introduction

I spent a good chunk of the weekend preparing for my VQ.  I leaned on Soft Hands and Bunker for a lot of good advice.  I tend to over think things, so I was up most of the night tossing and turning.  The adrenaline was flowing, so I got up early for an EC bicycle ride to the Colosseum, where I met up with Bunker, Toby, Sensodyne, and Bedpan for an EC run.  I got to work off some nerves and we got in some good mumble chatter.  When we got back to the parking lot, I got to welcome the rest of the PAX rolling in, and we got to work.

Warm-O-Rama

5:15am hit, and we were off.  I introduced myself and went through all the disclaimer language.  I went through the F3 mission statement, core principles, and credo.  Then into the warmup.  I kept telling myself to remember the correct key words and cadence.

Motivators from 6.

Abe Vigodas x 10.

Tappy Taps x 10.

World’s Greatest Stretch – 10 count hold.

The Thang

The Thang was a simple out and back at your own pace (run or walk or ruck) along the path through Electric Park to Settler’s Park.  I told everyone I had a special Mary planned, so be back at 5:54am sharp.

Everyone was back in time for the Mary.  What a good group!  I wanted to try something new for my VQ, so I introduced the Chum Bucket Crunch Circuit.  We moved to the grass so we didn’t destroy our backs on the pavement for this non-stop circuit.  11 different crunch exercises x 20 reps each, with no rest, on my count.  I did a quick demonstration, and we got right into it.  We finished too quick, so we did 20 extra Freddie Mercury reps and then a plank hold until 6am.

Circle of Trust

I got to do my first Name-A-Rama as the Q, and I must say, it was pretty cool.  For my COT, I used this opportunity to simply thank everyone for the support, it really did mean a lot to me.  As a newer guy, I look around to all the great leaders we have in this group as something to strive to.  I gave a personal shout out to Soft Hands and Bunker, who brought me into this group, and I’m glad they did (it sure took some convincing though).  We ended in prayer.

Naked Man Moleskin

What a great feeling to complete the VQ!  It’s pretty cool to see a couple other PAX doing their VQs coming up this month as well.  After the COT, we held a little AAR review session, and it seems like I passed the test.  Bedpan brought up a good point though…I need to get back on the Q-sheet.  I’m going to do a boot camp next.  And maybe an encore of the Chum Bucket Crunch Circuit.
