Introduction

I wanted to design a Black Diamond Pearls on a String. While evaluating potential routes, it struck me that we haven’t done a Black Diamond that started and finished at El Coyote. Turns out there are some great routes from El Coyote!

6 Station Pearls on a String. All runs between stations were Indian Runs.  Fast pace. Total running distance approximately 3.25 miles.

Station 1 (Mather Woods Parking Lot): OHP, Curls, Lion Kings, Burpees

Station 2 (Creekside North Park): Mountain Climbers, Merkins, Shakiras, Big Boys

There was a short trail run through Mather Woods on the way to Station 3.  We stayed single file for this stretch.

Station 3 (Small park on Illini Drive): Burpees, Grady Corns (tip toes), Bonnie Blairs, Jungle Boi Squats

Station 4 (Northwest lot of Ira Jones Middle School): Scorpion Dry Dock (CDD with one leg in the air above your 6), Moroccan Night Clubs (on tip toes), Air Squats, Smurf Jacks

Station 5: (The Bridge in Settler’s Park): Bear Crawl on bridge, Plank Jacks, Monkey Humpers

Circle of Trust

  • It’s a new year and many of us are setting goals for 2025.
  • My M set up a wall where we could each used post it notes to write down and share a goal we had for 2025.
  • One of my daughters set a goal to break the school record in the mile (5:40, her PR is 5:53). This is going to be very hard for her – harder than she thinks it is and harder than it sounds.
  • I did a scout run here yesterday to make sure I knew the route. I asked her to come along – let’s get after that goal!  What do you think she said? NO
  • I can tell that helping her pursuit of this goal is going to be a challenge for me, but I think it starts with focusing on the pursuit – the work – and not necessarily the outcome. She wants the outcome and will judge her success or failure based on whether or not she sets the record.  But what I know, and have to help her realize is that the growth will come in the journey, and the work she puts in, and her growth is not dependent on whether or not she breaks the record or falls a few seconds short.
  • If you have any recommendations on how to help a 13yo 8th Grader understand this I’ll take ‘em!

I did get some great recommendations from the PAX – focus on daily routine, provide incentive for her to succeed, and provide love and support no matter the outcome.

Naked Man Moleskin

WOW what a push this morning by the PAX.  We had 17 at the Black Diamond! More than any other F3P AO today.  Amazing.

Special TClaps to Hank Hill and Hodl (Hodl’s first black diamond!). This morning’s design was challenging – we had to push hard to get back by 6:00.  This required some PAX to get out of their comfort zone and push, maybe beyond where they had before or beyond what they thought they could do.  THIS IS WHY WE HAVE BLACK DIAMONDS.  Thank you for having the courage to show up.  Be proud of yourselves.
